A transitional kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.
San Diego Cooperative has always advocated for a developmentally-appropriate approach to education. We have also had a distinguished history of organizing students in dynamic multi-year, multi-age classrooms.
All students deserve a solid foundation. We design our students first years at school with empathy and a firm understanding of child development. As responsive educators we guide the student experience around playing, creating, exploring, sharing, being a part of a group, and falling in love with learning. Having the SDCCS “kindergarten experience” across multiple years provides an extraordinary opportunity for teachers, parents and students. Our youngest learners can be our greatest teachers and keep us grounded and focused on our mission—that’s why we love having TK’s a part of our multiage classrooms.
A child is eligible for transitional kindergarten if a child will have their fifth birthday between September 2nd and December 2nd.
